Hello All!

I'm Bachelor Husband commonly known as Jim. Ask my wife, Bronco Queen the meaning of my much talked about nickname. I'm one of the ancients out here.

I'm interested in ham radio, XM radio, HD radio and issues affecting them, radio dxing, computers, notetakers and internet, (probably spend too much time lately on the computer), and I read some. I especially enjoy electronic braille books. I'm becoming more adicted to the games on the Zone especially Blackjack, occasionally high low and am exploring other games. I quick note occasionally. I've been here for a couple of weeks or so.

I hope each of you are having a terrific time out here on the Zone.

Jim

Hello all!

Thanks for your welcome messages. You can count on my contacting you should I have questions. My next challenge is the voice chat. One has much to learn here. For you Bob, it is good to be part of the ancients even though we may not consider ourselves such. Perhaps we can start a new movememt here, the group of the ancients (grin smile)! For the lady from Scottland, my wife has a guidedog as well!

Do have a great day!

Jim

Hi Jim, and from an inactive ham thinking about getting back into the hobby, welcome. I used to run lots of CW, but don't have time for HF anymore, or the inclination to string up antennas. Welcome aboard, and we'll see you around here.

Lou

Hi Lou!

I have an antenna up but haven't been active. Been on the PC too much. Also enjoy CW. Don't have to worry about antennas with PC, just phone systems and DSL or whatever you have (grin smile)!

Hi Jim,
nice to meet you. I'm so glad whenever another older person comes on here. I'm hoping that gradually, there may someday be enough olderzoners to make it worth j-squared and chris n's while to have a board for us older zoners. I feel like these boards and th esite mostly belongs to the younger generation, it's their territory, but the admins and cl's don't discriminate against us because of our age, so we're allowed to stay. Don't feel you have to take that literally, it's just me, and how i feel. I just don't have enough in common with th eyounger ones, but of course, that's not anyone's problem. I'm 48 years old, just turned 48 on the 8th of this month. I like reading, mostly mysteries, suspense thrillers, ghost stories, and yes, don't laugh, young adult mysteries. I like stories about children and teens solveing mysteries. I like old time radio, and I have 204 cd's of it. I listen to day time soapps, other than that, just move around on the computer. I've started listening to some podcasts now with a program i have, accessible podcatcher. I was born totally blind and use jaws. I got my first computer in 1997. Well, guess thats enough of me for now, take care and have a good evening, nice meeting you,
wonderwoman

Hi Jim it's me Hope. We met a few days ago! When I listened to your audio profile and I took a chance and sent you a message! I have a shortwave radio! I have 2 pets Emma my guinea pig and Daisy my dog! So you use a note taker! Wow that's cool! Well I hope you like the Zone!

Hi Hope,

I always enjoy hearing from you out here! Do feel free to write me any time! The only problem with the notetaker is that I need to write in computer braille on here. May need to get a small USB keyboard for this thing! I think I'll give up on voice chat, it's too complicated to set up. I'll probably do boards and play games since I can do both with PC and notetaker. What do you listen to on your shortwave? Take care!

Jim, I never did get the microphone on my computer working properly. Right now, I'm teaching JAWS classes on my day job, and don't really feel like putzing around with the computer at home. I find with speech I enjoy writing again, anyway.

Hi Wonder Woman,

You sound like a fascinating person! I think these young folks need us out here! They might save themselves some problems if they'd only listen to us! I use both a laptop with Window Eyes and a Braillenote M-power. I had JFW but my computer had problems with it and decided Window Eyes worked better for some reason on my laptop so went that direction. I use to read Ellerry Queen Mystery Magazine some time ago. I get much OTR from XM Radio and from Bill Sparks dot org site. Haven't had much time to read lately! I do like to read electronic braille books with the notetaker. I'll watch for you out on the zone. Take care!

Hi Lou,

I don't blame you. Got a pair of Radio Shack USB headphones and they work well with VIP Conduit and For The People. I don't need to change any settings even though I go between the two sites. This chat client they have here is a joke! It probably is wonderful if you like to tinker. I think they should have a client similar to the above mentioned sites. Otherwise I think the Zone is a fine place and I have met some very nice people here! I have proof of that just reading this topic. Do take care!

Hi Jim,
I sent a story of mine off to ellery queens mystery magazine a long time ago, but it was rejected, oh well. I have about 104 otr cds. I've been collecting them for a few years, but decided to stop, because the woman i was getting them from was about to run out of the kind i like the best, suspense, and horror. I just downloaded a huge book of ghost stories from librivox.org, which took almost 2 hours on my broadband connection. I've only been on broad band for almost 3 months after being on dial up for 9 years. Ventrilo is a complicated program I think. I only really have it because vipconduit use to use it before they got their own chat client, and i keep itaround just incase some really good ventrilo servers come up created by decent people. Even if th eservers are public, i feel strange going on people's servers if I've neer talked to them before. I'd have to be invited before i'd go on one. I've been on the zone chat server twice, and I don't go there often, becaused there isn't anyone my age i can talk to on there, but its sort of an adventure if i only do it once in a while. I like reading mystery, horror and ghost stories. Well, that's all i can think of right now, take care and have a good evening,

Hi Wonderwoman,

I saw you up on the anagrams last night. I got 12 percent thus far but I think I'll wait till the next one. It is fun to try every once in a while.

You might try bill sparks dot com where OTR can be purchased or bill sparks dot com to hear some interesting audio streams. He has his own two streams, one has suspense in the name and the other is called the legend. The legend plays music much of the time. the Suspense stream may have music on it part of the time but you may run into something you like to listen to. I tend to justgo there and if I like what I hear, I'll listen. If not, I'll go my way! Have you ever listened to the lights out series with Arch Obler? Some of his stuff can make your hair stand up on end.

Thanks for th info on vintrillo. I checked both VIP and For the People and everything works fine on those sites with my computer as far as having the ability to talk is concerned. I haven't done much with these since I got Window Eyes.

Do take care! Feel free to write any time.

Jim

Hi Jim,
well, I already have all the suspense shows, at least I have 911 of them, and the lights out as well. As i said, I have a little over 100 cd's of old time radio shows. I brought them from a lady in washington who sells them for $6.50 per cd. I think she has most of them that bill sparks has, except for the otr soaps. he has more soaps than she does, or did. I told her to let me know if she gets anymore.
Its interesting to see how many anagrams we can get. I'm just good enough to get a lot, but not good enough to win points off of it, but I'm not points happy, so it really doesn't matter if i get a lot of points or not. What do you go by on VIP? I go by wonderwoman over there as well. I use to be on for the people, but things weren't working out for me over there, and i had a disagreement with the site owner, so I'm no longer a part of that site.Well, take care and have a good one, catch up with you later,
wonderwoman

Hi again,

I understand there was a spat over at for the people but I really wasn't all that involved with it. I think I use Jim A on VIP Conduit. We'll have to arange to be there around the same time and chat at some point. I'm not sure how long I should keep this topic up here but maybe one day we can post privately or go to a different topic and board here.

I otherwise had a slow day today. Mainly read Email. May play a few games before turning in for the night.

Do take care!

Jim
